Introduction
Twelve friends from Denver got together and planned a trip to Kauai, Hawaii in September for 10 days; officially to celebrate the birthday of our friend Tony Smith, who was turning forty. We rented a house outside Hanalei on Kauai's north shore and had ourselves a wonderful time - hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, touring, shopping, and doing very ordinary domestic things in a beach front house like cooking wonderful dinners (with produce from a local farmers market) and watching movies (like South Pacific, which was filmed on a beach next door to our property). Most memorable for me will be my first scuba dives, a new adventure and one I would love to continue having in other places. We also ran into some very fine people in Hawaii, especially those who made Tony Smith's birthday dinner at Tahiti Nui (a local restaurant in Hanalei) such a special treat. We really could not have asked for a nicer vacation. Here are a few selected images.
