Here are some images from two hikes to Mount Quandary (elevation 14,162 ft) by members of the Gay and Lesbian section of The Sierra Club, Rocky Mountain chapter. The first hike took place on February 16, 2008, a preparatory hike by Galen Oellig and John Krotchko, the outing leaders. They were accompanied by the famous golden labrador Horton, also known as "The Quandary Dog," an apparently permanent fixture on the east ridge trail, and very likely a reincarnated Tibetan boddhisattva. On this day the winds were pretty fierce, and Galen and John did not quite make the summit, after a sudden storm blew up and obscured it completly from view, forcing a premature and hasty descent. The formal outing took place two weeks later on what had to be the most beautiful winter day of the year, Saturday March 1. On this day the wind was minimal, the sun bright, and the sky a gorgeous blue with very few clouds, making the stunning 360 degree view from the summit an aweome wonder to behold. John and Galen were accompanied by a fine and sturdy crew including David Harris, Mike Lanciloti, Chris Kenry, and Kelly Close. Here are some images from both hikes.
